How to add Max Damage Stat

[updated December 15th 2024]

There are 3 types of Min/Max Damage stats in the game.

Min/Max Damage for One-Hand Damage:

This type of min/max damage only applies to 1 handed physical damage. Use this stat on 1 handed melee weapons.

This also applies to one-handed damage of throw weapons.

Min/Max Damage for Two-Hand Damage:

This type of min/max damage applies to all 2 handed physical weapon damage. Use this stat on ranged weapons (2 handed) or two handed weapons.

Min/Max Damage for Throw Damage:

This type of min/max damage only applies to throwing damage. Use this stat on throwing weapons. This will only affect its throw damage, not its one-handed damage.

What property to use

On 1 Handed Weapons: Adds #-# Damage

On any Weapon/Gear/Jewelery/Charms: +# to Minimum Damage or +# to Maximum Damage

This will add all 3 types of min/max stats

Kick or Smite: Minimum and Maximum Damagedoes not apply to Kick or Smite Damage

This does not work. I have tried this including adding just min damage, just max damage, and both. No matter what happens, item damage does not display the damage and character screen does not display a change in damage. I've tried finding the base item and adding min/max/both and the affect has been lost. I've tried finding the base item with the stat already existing and upon modifying the item, the affect has been lost. I've tried modifying low quality, normal, superior, magic, rare, set, crafted, unique. Nothing works. But for some unfathomable reason, I can spawn an item such ass Rixot's keen (which has +minimum damage) and the damage will show as intended, but if I change it into a different base, it's gone.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll do some further testing.

TLDR; There are multiple 'Min damage' and 'Max damage' attributes which will only affect the 'item type' it relates to. At this point the only 'item types' I have verified are '1 handed' and '2 handed'. A min or max damage attribute intended for 1 handed items will not affect weapon or character damage if a 2 handed weapon is equipped. The only available min or max damage attributes available through the d2runewizards hero editor search function is for '1 handed' weapons.

After messing around I've come to a conclusion. It appears the 'Max' or 'Min' damage attribute is relative to the item being '1 handed' or '2 handed' (possibly others as well such as throw item).

When spawning the unique item 'Ripsaw', 2 x +15 max damage attributes can be seen however, the item itself only gains 15 to max damage overall. This is also visible on jewels and charms. 'Ripsaw' can be wielded 1 or 2 handed, leading to the max damage attribute displaying twice where as 'Rixot's Keen' only displays the attribute once due to only being able to be wielded in 1 hand (this is my conclusion anyway).

I tested this by spawning 2 'Ripsaws'. On the first I deleted the max damage attribute which appeared first on the list of attributes and on the second, the second appearing max damage attribute. This lead to the weapons displaying different max damage stats in game when comparing 1 handed and 2 handed damage between the 2 items. I was able to change the base item into other 2 handed weapon variants as well as changing item quality and the item in game displayed correctly, as did the character screen. Within the d2runewizards hero editor, the damage is not displayed on the item (whether 1 or 2 handed) when only the '2 handed' max damage attribute is on the item.

In conclusion, when using d2runewizards hero editor, there is no issue with adding min or max damage to 1 handed weapons or armor when a 1 handed weapon is equipped however, I am unable to find the '2 handed' min or max damage attribute within the available attributes when the search function is used. It is possible to gain those attribute by editing an item such as 'Ribcracker' (which has +min-max damage) into the 2 handed item of choice or doing the same with 'War Travelers' for armor. There is however an issue for Rings and Amulets. As no jewelry spawns both of these attributes at once as fixed attributes (no set or unique), I (or anyone else) would have to first find an item with both of these attributes occurring simultaneously as it is not possible to change a weapon or armor base into a jewelry base or vise versa

Thanks for the valuable info, I have to look deeper in the game files to see if I can make it working for all cases.

I've updated the first post, I've tested all types and they are all working!
